Cooper's Hawks are one of eleven species of raptors that
nest on Starr Ranch, but also one of the more uncommon species to do so. So this is a unique opportunity.
This nest is about 1 mile up Bell Canyon in an Alder tree in Bell Creek (which is currently dry) and involves walking mostly on our access road and then in the creek bed for a bit. It's not a difficult walk, but sturdy footwear and long pants are a must. While we head to
the nest I will talk about other aspects of Starr Ranch including how it is
used by all the raptors that nest here.
I guarantee that if you’ve never seen
young hawks up close it will be an exciting and memorable experience. I
hope you can join me.
